The concept was simple. The 10 contestants who accepted the challenge were given 10 yards of fabric made with LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber. The materials – in LYCRA® brand logo red – were supplied by mill global partners Carvico, Derun, Dejun, Eurojersey and Jersey Lomellina.
The unique swimsuit looks from ten finalists – representing the Acambha, Beauty and the Beach, Honey Bee Swim, Indie SWIM, KORU, Leahray, Shore, Solkissed Swimwear, SUMARIE and Veronika Pagan brands – were modelled at the Hammock opening night party that got Miami Swim Week off to a glamorous start.
A panel of industry and media experts judged the creativity, originality and fit of the one-off designs. Ute Gaenshirt of Acambha came out top winning a LYCRA® brand sponsored photoshoot and a full page ad featuring her winning design in Ocean Drive magazine.
Ale Boggiano of Solkissed Swimwear and Billi Doyle of Honey Bee Swim took second and third places.
The LYCRA® DESIGN CHALLENGE was a great example of the value chain working together to encourage creativity in swimwear design and ultimately drive consumer preference for garments with stylish good looks and practical benefits that set them apart from the beachwear crowd.
