Over 700 delegates from 30 countries will attend this year’s Man Made Fibers Congress in Dornbirn, Austria. The global importance of the event which opens September 20th has increased steadily since its launch in the early 1960s.

Friedrich Weninger, Managing Director of the organizing institute, is particularly pleased with the growing number of both Asian delegates and representatives of leading consumer brands and retailers. “It reflects the diversification of interest in man-made fiber technology developments that’s evident across industry sectors including apparel.”

The program committee which he heads had a tougher than usual task narrowing down over 180 content submissions to fit the three-day agenda which includes innovative features such as young scientists’ forum, a CEO panel assessment of the globalization, and a discussion by leading brands and retailers of the of the impact of social media on consumer demand.

INVISTA specialists have three slots on the program – presentation of the new LYCRA® FIT FINDER app which enables legwear shoppers to make optimal size choices, the background story to the successful development of LYCRA® SUPER SUMMER SHEER and LIFESTYLE COMPRESSION hosiery technologies based on LEG CARE and run-resistant LYCRA® FUSION™ technologies, and an update on nylon intermediates' break-through polymer innovation.

Besides adding to the richness of the program, Friedrich Weninger values INVISTA’s participation because of its ability to interconnect different levels of the apparel supply chain. “It’s obviously a major contributor of fiber innovation, but its approach to market is also important as it involves the entire supply chain in ways that ensure consumer relevance – a critical factor in driving sector growth.”

Wim Bakker, a former INVISTA fiber expert who had been closely connected with Dornbirn for over a decade and served on the program committee, agrees with this and emphasizes the event’s importance as a networking opportunity.

“It’s a unique source of productive cross-industry contacts. Delegates from different industries probably have more common today than in the past. Broad trends such as growing emphasis on sustainability apply more or less across the board and offer opportunities for greater cooperation. Technical networking can be invaluable in this respect and most people come away with useful leads.”
