Great Moments in LYCRA® Fiber History

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong left the lunar module and took his first step onto the surface of the moon with the immortal phrase: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” That leap wouldn’t have been possible without his specially design spacesuit handcrafted for him in Delaware. What many people don’t know is that one of the 21 layers in Armstrong's moon suit included LYCRA® fiber to hold tubes of cooling water snugly against his skin to keep him from overheating.

Learn more about the Apollo 11 mission and what went into the moon suit in the article from the Oct./Nov. 1969 issue of Better Living Magazine.
